Grand and upright pianos are tuned on the same basic principle, but the two aren't equally easy to work on. A grand's strings run horizontally, so a tuner often has to reach around the side or lean into the case, which is more physically awkward; an upright's vertical strings sit in a fixed, more accessible layout.
Grands also have longer bass strings with fuller resonance, so small pitch errors get amplified by that resonance, and tuners usually need to cross-check the low-to-mid register more carefully. That's part of why, at a similar size, tuning a grand typically costs a little more than tuning an upright.
